You Too Can Golf Without Spending A Lot of Money!
Today’s post is written by Ryan, who is my brother and loves the game of golf. Please let me know if you enjoy today’s post, because I may be able to talk him into writing more.

The most important thing for people to understand is that golfing inexpensively is quite easy. Most persons think that to golf cheaply, you must golf at a low quality course. This is an incorrect way of thinking.![]()
Every course has a rate called “Twilight.” This is cheaper because of the tee time being closer to sundown. Some courses have a “Super Twilight” fee that cuts the rate even more.
A very nice course near my home in Fairfield, CA has a normal rate of $57 a round. Twilight is $31, and Super Twilight is $14. I go to this course normally because I love their driving range. I have gotten to know the golf pros inside. They are happy to give me the Super Twilight price even if it comes fifteen to twenty minutes early.
Now, I don’t expect that every pro will be this helpful. I do know that if you know your favorite course well, you will be able to push the limit and get the full bang for your buck. I break this down into three steps:
- Get to know the pros at your favorite golf shop
- Ask them what days are more busy than others
- Target the slower days and get the full bang for your buck.
This works at almost all courses. My advice is to try many courses (as all good golfers do) and don’t be afraid to ask a lot of questions. Every one understands saving money in this economy.

Oh my gosh you are nominated for a Today.com award!!! Everyone vote for The Single Frugalton here: http://www.today.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2884 Congrats! =D –Michelle, http://entersweepstakes.today.com/
Thanks Michelle
I’m honored to be among such great nominated blogs.
Thanks for the golf information. My son and husband like the game, but it is SO expensive. We’ll have to check to see if our local courses have the twilight rates.
I think it’s a great post, too! My sister’s boyfriend is training to become a golf pro and it’s a tough passion for a college student!
Any chance your brother wants to write a travel piece about golf courses?
Maybe you and I could do a guest posting/swap thing, too!
Tell your brother that it’s a very well written post and I enjoyed reading it, despite the fact that I know very little about golf!
It looks as if your brother has similar writing and money saving skills to you!
Good post! I vote for bringing your brother back!
