A Money Saving Idea To Keep In Touch With Special People In Your Life

Published by laneerg at 8:33 pm under 1 Edit This

Do you have friends and family members spread out across the country, or even perhaps the world? It isn’t very easy to keep in touch with everyone whom you would like to. And even if you do try to keep in touch, it can start to get pretty expensive.

Wouldn’t it be nice to have a way of sharing what’s going on in each other’s lives without having to worry about using up cell phone minutes, or costly long distance, or even stamps? Wouldn’t be nice to have a place on the internet where you can share each others lives, but not have to worry about who all may be seeing it?

Fliggo.com is a place where you can create a private website where only people you invite to it can see and participate.  You can upload home video’s to it, or post announcements. It can be set to where only you can upload videos or post announcements, or anyone you invite to the site.

Of course to be able to upload homemade videos to the site, you will need a digital camera with video capabilities.

If you don’t already have something that fits the bill, here is a camera similar to the one I have.

I really like my camera which I received for a birthday/Christmas gift this year after not having had anything other than my cell phone camera. It takes digital still photos, as well as video, and can be used as a web cam.

All I have to do to upload videos or pictures from my camera is to take out the SD card and put it into my computer’s SD slot. If you have an older computer, there are cords provided to transfer the data.

So, if you already have a camera, then this is a no - cost way of keeping up with family and friends. If not, then it’s not quite so inexpensive, but still a great way to keep in touch. :D

Those cameras are great. We’ve had similar models all under $100 and you can’t go wrong.

That site looks like a great idea–I know my dad was looking for something like that a while ago for extended family.

Thank you for the tip on this site. Sounds like a much more private way to keep in touch than something like Facebook.

@jorty - I agree! Facebook is great, but not all that private.

My brother just moved to Canada. We used the cameras, and they worked wonders…but sometimes my mom just wanted to talk to him for 5 minutes without going through the trouble of uploading the video, etc. We can’t call him with our landline because the first time we did that it was super expensive to get in contact with him. So I did some research to see which phone company will give me the best rate. In doing my research, I came across Tracfone. They have a plan called the International neighbors service where people in Mexico or Canada can set up a local number in their city, and when they dial it, it’s a local call for them but it will connect to their family or friend’s Tracfone in the US. There is no international long distance charge and the receiving Tracfone just gets billed th usual incoming call rate: 1 minute per per minute. So I bought my mom a Tracfone, and she uses it mainly to get in contact with my brother.
