Show You Care Without Breaking the Budget: The Story Card
Several years ago my mom went a few steps further than a handmade card.
To celebrate my having been promoted at my company
, my mom made a story card. She used the idea of ‘This was then’ and ‘This is now.’ In the card she had actual photographs, as well as hand drawings.
The time and thought and effort which went into the making of this card, makes it one of the best gifts I have ever received.
Today, I would like to suggest the idea of making a story card for your special someone. Perhaps it could tell about your 5 most special memories, or show the things you most appreciate about the person.
Don’t worry if you are not the best artist in the world, the less perfect the drawings, the more special the card will be.
Likewise, you don’t need to worry about being an accomplished writer, just write from your heart.
Day 8: A Story Card
Materials:
- 3 - 4 pieces of plain paper
- photos
- writing utensils
- stapler or hole punch
- ribbon (if using hole punch)
- markers, etc for decorating
Instructions:
Before starting on the card, prepare a rough draft outlining what you want to say and what photos or other types of pictures you want to use.
Also decide how many pages you would like it to be. Do you want it to be on 1/2 size pages, or on 1/4 folded pages? Do you want it to be a horizontal or a vertical card?
Once you’ve answered those questions, then put your papers together and fold them. To hold the pages together, you could punch a hole at the top corner and tie a ribbon through it, or simply staple it at the edge.
Now you’re ready to write your storycard! It may be a good idea to do it in pencil at first until you’re sure of how everything will go.
What are some special gifts you’ve received that you know took a lot of time and thought?
