Introduction to the Single Frugalton - Part Two: Dad’s background
My dad grew up in a family where education and hard work were very important values.
His father was a Seventh-day Adventist minister who had immigrated to the United States from Denmark. His mother taught from the lower elementary grades all the way through college level courses, including English and French as her specialties. His sister is a high-level nurse administrator for Kaiser. His younger brother and his wife both hold Doctorates and have served as missionaries in the Middle East area for many years, as well as having pastored the Hollywood CA SDA church. His youngest brother is a Professor of Business at a college in CA – he has two children 9 and 7.
Due to his father being a minister, they lived in a great variety of places. When my dad was a young teenager, his family made a trip back to Denmark to visit relatives.
From his parents he learned how to be generous with his time and money, but at the same time, the value of being a good steward. He worked his way through high school on a local farm, and then worked his way through college as part of a construction crew, where he became a SDA minister.
